Located on the vibrant Witte de Withstraat, the Centrum van Beeldende Kunst houses Tent, a dynamic cultural institution. However, the Tent office was previously cramped and noisy, with only one small meeting room, making it an uninviting workspace where staff preferred working from home.
Our challenge was to transform this office into a modern, functional, and pleasant environment that fosters collaboration and focus. To achieve this, we opened up the space by removing part of the dividing wall between two large rooms, creating a natural flow and spatial connection. Additionally, we introduced four separate work and meeting rooms, enclosed with glass walls that maintain transparency while providing privacy.
To address the acoustic challenges, we installed four-meter-high curtains throughout the workspace. These curtains serve a dual purpose: they visually separate areas and can be drawn closed for quiet, undisturbed work or meetings, while still allowing glimpses between zones when open.
The design embraces a fresh and modern color palette suited to the young and energetic team at Tent. Soft blues and greens dominate, accented by vibrant lemon yellow — reflecting the color of Tent’s logo. Warm, dark red steel window frames add a bold contrast and an unexpected layer of warmth to the interior.
Flooring and wall paneling in the meeting and workrooms are finished with Tredford carpet, further improving sound absorption and contributing to the overall calm atmosphere.
Sustainability and budget efficiency were important in this project. Much of the existing furniture was repurposed creatively: cabinets were reworked into new storage units and a fully functional kitchen. By keeping the cabinets freestanding and away from the glass walls, the office retains its transparent character while still offering necessary privacy between rooms.
This renovation resulted in a bright, inviting, and acoustically comfortable workplace that perfectly suits Tent’s innovative and cultural mission.
