Up in the Sky – Apartment Design on 150 metres.
In the highest residential building in The Netherlands, we are designing an apartment at 150 metres high—a truly rare and remarkable setting by Dutch standards. From this height, the view stretches far across the city, with the picturesque Veerhaven quarter in the foreground and the ever-changing Dutch skies as a backdrop. Life here feels quiet, almost contemplative, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the streets below.
Our design approach embraces and enhances that serene atmosphere. We have intentionally chosen an extremely calm colour palette—so calm, in fact, that there are virtually no colours at all, except for subtle accents in carefully selected accessories. Instead of relying on colour, the depth and warmth of the interior are created through layering of materials and textures.
Light oak plays a central role, its natural tone bringing warmth without overpowering the space. The ceilings feature elegant curved elements that soften the architecture, while floor-to-ceiling linen curtains add a tactile and airy quality to the rooms. A large, island-shaped sofa anchors the living area, designed for both relaxation and conversation, and positioned to take full advantage of the panoramic views.
The sense of quiet minimalism extends to the technical elements of the home. An extensive, high-end audio system is fully integrated into walls and ceilings, discreetly concealed behind plasterwork so that no visual distraction competes with the landscape outside. By hiding these elements from sight, the design keeps the focus exactly where it belongs—on the horizon.
The result is an apartment that feels timeless and grounded, despite its location high above the city. Every detail, from the materials to the custom-built elements, is chosen to create a space where one can truly pause, breathe, and enjoy the rare beauty of living quite literally in the clouds.
